Residential Proxies

Route requests through consenting home broadband connections. The hardest pool to detect, and the one to reach for when a target actively fingerprints its traffic.

What it is

How residential proxies actually work

A residential proxy borrows the IP address of a real home internet connection. To the site you are requesting, the traffic is indistinguishable from an ordinary person browsing on their own broadband line, because in network terms that is exactly what it is.

Every IP in the wproxy residential pool comes from a device whose owner opted in through one of our vetted SDK partners, is paid for the bandwidth they contribute, and can leave at any time. We re-verify consent on a rolling 30-day cycle and drop any partner that cannot evidence it.

Because the addresses belong to consumer ISPs rather than hosting providers, they carry none of the reputational baggage attached to datacenter ranges. That is what makes them the default choice for any target that scores IPs by ASN.

  1. 1

You send a request to one entry point

All residential traffic goes to res.wproxy.io on port 8000. There is no per-country hostname to maintain — targeting lives in the username string.

  2. 2

    The gateway resolves your targeting

We parse the username modifiers, filter the live pool to peers matching your country, city and ASN constraints, and rank the candidates by recent success rate against the destination host.

  3. 3

The request exits from a residential line

Your payload leaves from a consumer broadband connection. The destination sees that ISP's address and geolocation, never ours.

  4. 4

The response comes back over the same tunnel

Sticky sessions pin the chosen peer for the session lifetime. Rotating sessions release it immediately so the next request picks a fresh address.

Capabilities

What you get with residential

Ethically sourced, continuously audited

Every contributing device has explicit, revocable consent and is compensated. We publish a sourcing summary each quarter and terminate partners who cannot evidence the chain.

City and ASN precision

Target down to a single city across 302 metros, or pin to a named carrier when you need traffic to look like it came from a specific ISP.

Sessions that actually hold

Sticky sessions survive up to two hours on the same exit IP. If the underlying peer drops, we surface it in the response headers rather than silently swapping you onto a new address.

Billed on successful bytes

Failed requests, blocked responses and CONNECT overhead are not billed. You pay for the payload you actually received.

Prices exclude VAT. Annual billing takes a further 20% off. Bandwidth is metered on successful responses only.

Reach for this when

  • Targets that block datacenter ASNs outright
  • Locale-accurate pricing, search and catalogue data
  • Ad verification where the viewer must look organic
  • Long-running account sessions

Look elsewhere when

  • Very high-throughput bulk crawling of permissive targets — datacenter is far cheaper
  • Workloads that need a fixed, unchanging IP for allowlisting — use ISP or dedicated
FAQ

Residential proxy questions

From consumer devices whose owners opted into a bandwidth-sharing programme run by one of our vetted partners. Participants are compensated, are shown a plain-language disclosure at install time, and can withdraw at any point. We re-verify consent on a 30-day cycle.
No. The pool figure is the number of unique addresses seen across the last 30 days. Roughly 40% of the pool is online at any given moment, which is still far more concurrency than any single workload needs.
We return a 502 with the header x-wproxy-error: session-peer-lost rather than quietly rotating you. That way your code decides whether to retry on a new session or fail the job.
No. Bandwidth is metered on the response body of requests that returned a 2xx or 3xx. Connection setup, retries and blocked responses are absorbed by us.
Yes. Add -state-california or -zip-90210 to your username. ZIP targeting is US-only; everywhere else supports country, city and ASN.
